Joan M. Hillyard, 82, of Starbrick, Pa. passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Warren General Hospital.

Joan was born October 24, 1931 in Elkland, Pa., a daughter of the late George and Elenore  Hall. She came to Warren in 1960 and went to work a GC Murphy Co. for 32 years, retiring from there. She then went to work at Herbert Shoes in Warren for a while. Joan enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing, bird watching and nature in general.  She loved her friends and family and will be greatly missed by them.

Joan is survived her 4 children; Walter R. Hillyard of Nichols, S.C., Rodney (Penny) Hillyar of Jamestown, N.Y., Alan Hillyard and companion Glenn Freeburg of Tidioute, and Alice Kerper, of Warren, seven grandchildren; Steven Bouchard, Bradley Bouchard, Tim Hillyard, Misty Hillyard, Kyle Hillyard, Angel Phillips, and Keprena (John) Ruby, and 4 great grandchildren, Abby , Ella, Joshua and Jacob Bouchard.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter H. Hillyard, a granddaughter, Ashley Reitz and a sister Delores Losey.

A celebration of life gathering will be held from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Joand house, 15 Moore Dr., Warren, Pa. 16365.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Hospice of Warren Co., or to Hospital Home Care Services, both located at 2 Crescent Dr., Warren, Pa. 16365

Iworked with your mother at Blair and she was a great lady. I know she will be missed. Alan, I worked with you at Kmart. My sympathy to all of you.

Family of Joan Hillyard,

Please know how sorry we are for Joans passing, she will be greatly missed. David and I have been sick the last two weeks and will not be able to attend her memorial service. The park has lost one of there most valuable residents.

We all loved her beautiful flowers and gardens.

I worked with your mother at G C Murphy's. She was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I grew up with Rodney and wish to express my condolences.
