Born on April 30, 1930, in Sugar Grove, a son of the late Arthur and Alice (Lundburg) Landin, Mel grew up in the home that his father built. As a young boy, he became a member of Mission Covenant Church.

After teaching Physics at Eisenhower High School for a year, Mel served in the US Air Force as a dentist for a few years.

In 1959, Mel moved with his young family back to his home in Sugar Grove to start his dental practice, was joined by his son, Paul, in 1989, and continued until his retirement in 2001.

Always eager to serve, Mel was Chairman of the Board of Camp Mission Meadows, Covenant Manor, and Mission Covenant Church for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hobby farming, directing the Church choir, singing in a men’s quartet, and traveling.

They have five children: Mark (Beth)Landin of Corning, NY, Donald (Karen) Landin of MN, Susan (John) DeLancey of Pittsburgh, Paul (Karen) Landin of Sugar Grove, Steven Landin and his partner, Heike Newman of CO.
