He was born January 21, 1942 in Erie, Pa., a son of the late Bernard and Isabelle (Shaffer) Mitchell. Ed worked as a maintenance supervisor for Dana Corp. in Sheffield for 12 years.  Prior to that, he worked at Betts for 17 years. He served in the US Army, was a member of the Youngsville American Legion Post #658, and the Brokenstraw Fish & Game Club.  Ed was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and photography.  He especially enjoyed the companionship of his five dogs.

Ed is survived by his loving wife Danielle (Christie) Mitchell, whom he married June 3, 1978 at Chapman’s Dam, 2 sons, Brian (Melissa) Mitchell of Youngsville, Eric Mitchell of California, 2 daughters, Marcy Simmons of Ohio and Elaine Johnson of Spartansburg, a daughter-in-law Denise Mitchell of Warren, a half sister Jean Zeigler of Erie, 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Sgt. Sean Mitchell who was killed in action in Iraq, and a sister Sandra Henry.

Friends will be received at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Dear Dani and family,
We are so sorry for your loss. Ed was a mentor to Royce. Royce looked up to him. I (Michelle) will miss his stopping by with beautiful wildlife pictures that he'd taken that day. He got the lottery ticket to heaven, the one we've all been waiting for. Thanks Ed for being our friend and never forgetting about us! All our love and prayers to you and your family. Love Royce and Michelle Blum
P.S. Dani if your down our way please stop by.

Dani and family,
I am deeply saddened by this news. Ed was a wonderful man, one that would always make me laugh. I enjoyed working with him at Dana. We always had talks about the dogs! They sure were his pride and joy! Find strength in each other and in your friends. They will help you through this. Praying for all of you.
