Duane “Dubs” Edward Morningstar, 60, of Sugar Grove, PA, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.

Dubs was born May 10, 1956 in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late Dewey M. Morningstar and his surviving stepmother Jeanne Wilson Morningstar, mother Geraldine Evans Ebbitt, and stepfather Richard Ebbitt.  Dubs worked as a Supplier Quality Engineer for Cummins, Inc. Jamestown Engine Plant for 37 years prior to his retirement due to his courageous battle with cancer.  He was an avid race fan having spent many years at Stateline Speedway, cycling, mountain biking, and racing motorcycles.  He especially loved racing his Kawasaki KX500 at Mapleshade MX where he also spent close to 20 years tending the track with his son, Casey, and his best friend, Doug Lawson.  He was an active member of Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, passionately shared his born-again faith with others, and was always willing to serve and support his community.  He enjoyed traveling to Germany and Switzerland for Cummins and to visit his daughter, Kira, in Arizona.

Dubs was a loving father and is survived by daughter, Kira Diane Morningstar Nordquist and son-in-law, Andrew Nicholas Nordquist of Phoenix, Arizona, son, Casey Si Morningstar of Sugar Grove, PA, and granddog and faithful companion, Dozer.  He is also survived by brothers, Dewey J. Morningstar, Sr., Kurt Morningstar, Scott Morningstar and wife Michele, Dean Morningstar and wife Pamela, Richie Ebbitt, Ryan Ebbitt, and sister, Amy Morningstar.  Uncle Dubs was also loved by several nieces, nephews, and great nephews.  He was especially admired by nephews Dewey J. Morningstar, Jr. and wife Brooke, Dustin Morningstar and niece Tess Morningstar.  His special friends Douglas and Sherry Lawson, John and Chris Schuyler, Kathy Hastings, the morning coffee gang at church, and many other dear friends will always remember him fondly.

Dubs was preceded in death by his father Dewey M. Morningstar, his sister, Debra L. Morningstar Tobias, and his niece Shannon L. Tobias.
Dubs and his family wish to extend heartfelt thanks to the Cancer Care Center at Warren General Hospital and its many doctors and nurses, or “angels” as Dubs called them.  Your service and compassion have meant more than you will ever know.

A memorial service will be held at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 210 Jamestown St., Sugar Grove on Friday, July 29 at 7:30pm.  Visiting hours will be held at the church from 12 – 2pm and 4 – 6pm on Friday as well.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in honor of Dubs to the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, Sugar Grove Free Methodist Food Pantry, the Cancer Care Center at Warren General Hospital, 2 West Crescent Park, Warren, or to support a local small business of your choice.

The Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main St., Youngsville, has been entrusted with all arrangements.

To the Family of Dubs Morningstar,
My heart goes out to all of his family members. Dubs was the kindest & sweetest man that I ever known at Cummins. He treated everyone as though he had known you all his life!! He was a very special man!! I'm sorry for your loss! I have been gone from Cummins since 1998 because of my own Medical problems so I was unaware of Dubs's struggle with Cancer. It angers me that this awful disease is striking many of my dear friends!! I hope you receive my heartful Sympathy for your great loss!!! But I know that he is up in Heaven Worshipping his Lord & Savior without anymore pain & discomfort waiting for the rest of his loved one & friends to meet him in the sky on that Great & Wonderful day when Jesus returns for his church!!! Hallelujah!!
God Bless You & comfort you in the days to come in the Loving Arms of a Loving Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.
Love In Christ,
Kathie Roselli

I have very fond memories of Dubs up on the hill in his early 20's. You never knew what he was going to brew up in mom's kitchen. I considered him as one of my brothers. Loved him to pieces.

Dubs was a very good man. I raced motocross with Dubs in the 1970s and worked with him at Cummins for many years. he was always a pleasure to be with, did his job well and treated people with respect. I remember joking with him that his was the only butt large enough to have his name printed across the back of his leathers. We shared a lot of laughs together and this day is darker because he is gone.

Dubs was a remarkable man. He was awesome to work with and we shared some great laughs and stories. We worked closely on manssy different jobs and projects. I found him to be very dedicated to his work. He was a great Christian to talk with and work with, never uttering an unpleasant word. You will be missed Dubs, but not forgotten. To your family I offer my condolences and pray for all of you at this time of sorrow. God Bless all of you. Dubs had a positive influence on my life at Cummins.
