Connie M. Meleen, 60, of 51 Rounds Hill Rd, Chandlers Valley, passed away on Sunday August 7, 2016 at the Warren General Hospital.

Connie was born June 15, 1956 in Warren, the daughter of the late Steve and Lenna Elis Bobelak, the dad that raised her. She attended Eisenhower High School and had been employed at many local bars and clubs as a bartender. She also worked at several retail stores as a clerk and window display designer.  She retired from James Jeweler’s when they closed in 1999.
She was a charter member of the Warren Jaycettes, and instrumental in the placement of the Vietnam Monument of Warren County. She belonged to the Eagles Club and the Corry V.F.W. Auxiliary. She also marched with the all-female color guard for the former Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8853 of Youngsville.  She served as the Emergency Management Deputy for Sugar Grove Township and Borough for many years and had belonged to the local fire departments. She was a proud member of the “Defiant five”. Connie also played the Easter Bunny for 27 years appearing at Easter egg hunts for the Sugar Grove American Legion post 758, the Chandlers Valley Community Center and the Sugar Grove Vol. Fire Dept. In retiring from her Easter Bunny duties, she turned them over to her daughter in 2006.

She worked countless hours designing and building parade floats for the Jaycettes, V.F.W, and the Eisenhower Marching Band, winning many first place awards. She was also an exhibitor in, and enjoyed both, the Warren County and Sparta fairs, winning hundreds of ribbons in her field of expertise. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in the care of the grounds of the old Ellis homestead. She enjoyed sewing and decorating her home for the holidays. Her greatest joy was her family and friends.

Connie is survived by her husband John M. Meleen, whom she married July 9, 1988, a daughter, Casey Meleen of Chandlers Valley, a step-son, Christopher Meleen of Tampa, Fla., a sister, Gale Diethrick of Chandlers Valley, an aunt and a uncle, Laura and Mickey Donner of Corona, California, an aunt and a uncle, Audrey and Edmund Ellis Sr. of Chandlers Valley, and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an uncle, Harold W. Ellis.

Friends may call on Friday from 5-8 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 North Main St. in Youngsville. A funeral service will be held there on Saturday at 11 am with the Rev. Kathy Thompson, pastor of the Youngsville Free Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Chandlers Valley Cemetery.

The world has lost another irreplaceable person. Her talents of decor were amazing.
Road trips were never boring. Rescuing flowers from old farmsteads will have to be done by another.... Orphaned squirrels will hopefully find the love of a person willing to change their house to accommodate an extra guest. And we'll have to remember what a jewel we had among us.
