David Coates, 62, of Jackson Run Rd., Sugar Grove, passed away on Tuesday January 23, 2018, at his residence.

David was born April 6, 1955 in Warren, a son of the late Gerald and Mary (Nagurney) Coates. He had been employed at Red Barn, sold heat and smoke detectors and also worked at Gas Oil Management. David was a member of the Community Center in the Valley and had served as president for 2 years, helping build the playground.  He enjoyed flying ultralight’s, fixing Volkswagens, and going to concerts and on adventures.  But his greatest joy, was spending time with his family and friends, and anything that went boom.

David is survived by his loving wife Sally (Sopher) Coates, whom he married on October 27, 1976 in Warren, his 2 daughters, Amy (Corey) Shaw of Titusville and April (Jason) Messinger of Sugar Grove, his 4 grandchildren, Tiara, Trevis,  Alea,  Seren, 2 great granddaughters, Mia, Chloe, his siblings, Sherry Coates of N.C, Jeff (Paula) Coates of N.C., Mark Coates of VT, and Steve Coates of Conn., and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Doug Coates and a brother-in-law, Mel Steiner.

Friends will be received on Friday from 3-6 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Youngsville. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Warren Co. P.O. Box 68 Warren, Pa. 16365. Condolences to the family may be made at www.nelsonfuneralhome.net.

Jo-Ann and I send condolences to Sally and Family. Another member of the Coates brothers coterie passes, the episodes of this clan I witnessed from 1965 through 1979 still make me chuckle. Dave was always in the middle of it.
