Theodore “Ted” J. Melin, 76, of Warren, PA, passed away Monday May 28, 2018 at his residence after an extended illness from exposure to Agent Orange.

Ted was born May 3, 1942 in Muskegon, MI to the late Herbert and Helen (Mathews) Melin. Ted served in US Army during the Vietnam War, obtaining the rank of SP5. The above photo is of Ted holding a dog that he befriended and named Shotgun.  Ted credited Shotgun for saving not only his life, but that of his platoon’s on numerous occasions, as he warned the men of approaching Vietcong. Ted went on to work as a union carpenter in heavy construction. He enjoyed spending time outside, hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member of the Clarendon VFW, the Youngsville American Legion, and the AmVets Club in Sugar Grove.

Ted is survived by his wife Nancy Fleming Melin, whom he married January 7, 1977 in Hoyt Lakes, MN, his son, Thomas (Kim) Melin of Holland, MI, a step daughter, Heidi Hedges of Warren, 2 brothers Robert (Melody) Melin of Byron, MN and Richard Melin of Aurora, MN, 5 grandchildren, Joshua Melin and his companion Alysha Looman of Muskegon, MI Elyse Hedges of Warren, Jacob Miller of Huntington Beach, CA, Jessie Miller of Holland, MI and Lori Walker of Muskegon, 2 step-great grandchildren and his faithful companion Molly the Yorkie.

In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by a brother, Sean Melin and an infant brother.

A memorial service will be held on August 11th and will be announced at a later date. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Youngsville American Legion Honor Guard, 10 North Main St. Youngsville, Pa. 16371.

Nancy, I stumbled across this and it broke my heart to hear. I will always treasure the memories of working with Ted on the Paris Studios building in Muskegon, MI and the time you opened your hearts and home to me in Florida. You both cross my mind often and I send you my love and strength during this time.
