D. Lorraine Thompson, 78, of Erie and formerly of Sugar Grove, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018 at St. Mary’s East in Erie.

She was born June 29, 1940, in Corry, PA, a daughter to the late Charles and Faith (Hassel) Stewart. Lorraine was previously a member of the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church and more recently, a member of the New Vision Free Methodist Church in Erie. She was a foster care recruiter and huge advocate for abused children. Her family was a very significant part of her life; they cherished and loved her. Lorraine enjoyed painting, animals and the company of others.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, John Kent Thompson, of Erie; a daughter, Jane (Lynn) Johnson of Erie and their children, Soraya and Khanh Johnson; a son, Brent (Alma) Thompson of Columbus, OH and their children, Charis, Daniel and Trent Thompson; a son, Stewart (Tammy) Thompson of Brocton, NY and their children, Joshua, Lydia and Ava Thompson; a son, Rick (Wyvonnia) Thompson of Warren and their children Zachariah and Samuel Thompson; a son, John (Samantha) Thompson of Stillwater, OK and their children Jaxton and Asa Thompson; two granddaughters, Teresa Rounds and Sonya Onink and two additional grandson’s; a great-grandson, Wyatt and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Miles, her sister, Temple Butler and her brother, Frederick Stewart.

Friends will be received on Thursday, July 26 at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church from 5:00-7:00pm. A memorial service will be held there at 11:00am on Friday, July 27. Burial will follow in the Cherry Hill Cemetery in Sugar Grove.
