Jerry H. Frank, 81, of Bear Lake, PA, passed away Friday morning, June 14, 2019 at Kinzua Healthcare and Rahab Center in Warren, PA.

He was born July 15, 1937 in Sugar Grove, PA, a son to the late Kenneth and Erma (Wilcox) Frank. Jerry worked for 10 years at Marlin Rockwell in Jamestown, NY and then in 1956 he, his brother and 3 other partners built and opened Stateline Speedway in Busti, NY. A few years later, they opened Eriez Speedway in Hammett, PA. In 1985 they sold the tracks and Jerry went on to sell cars at Todd’s Gas Buggies in Sugar Grove until they closed. He also owned a small mechanics garage in Sugar Grove with his partner, Jon Ostrom.

Jerry spent his retirement years following his son’s racing career, helping his family and friends running errands, making deliveries and mowing lawns; anything that would keep him busy. He spent many years teaching his grandson about the scrap business. They would travel many miles with his truck loaded down with scrap, trying to make a few bucks. Those two earned the nickname “Sandford & Grandson”. He taught his children and grandchildren was that you work hard for what you want, be dependable and always pay your bills on time. Jerry was one of a kind and will be missed in our small community.

He is survived by his children, Jim (Dee) Frank of Jamestown, NY, Chub (Mary) Frank of Bear Lake, PA and Joni (Curt) Hansen of Sugar Grove, PA; his grandchildren, Dereck Frank, Ericka Carpenter, David Woolslayer, Maggie (Norm) Smith, Whitney (Brad) Parker, Colton (Gabe) Parker and Casey Hansen; his great grandchildren, Riley and Travis Carpenter, Ally Woolslayer and Maddox Gilbert-Woolslayer, Delana and Reagon Smith, Kayden and Copelan Parker; a brother, Gail Frank; a sister, Onalee Williams and a sister-in-law, Sally Frank and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Sue (Jordan) Frank, whom he married April 5, 1958 in Lottsville, a brother, Donald and a sister-in-law, Florence.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, June 24 from 1-4pm at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 210 Jamestown Street, Sugar Grove, PA 16350, at which time a memorial service will be held there at 4pm with the Rev. Billy Hughes, pastor, officiating.  The family asks for casual dress or your favorite racing shirt. Burial will take place in the Lottsville Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Warren County at hospiceofwarrencounty.com, the Sugar Grove VFD, 27 Wilson Street, Sugar Grove, PA 16350 or to the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 210 Jamestown St, Sugar Grove, PA 16350.
