John R. Wojtowicz, 71, of Garland, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, August, 20, 2019 at Corry Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 29, 1948 in Warren, Pa, a son to the late John C. Wojtowicz and Mary (Cobb) Wojtowicz who survives him of Youngsville, Pa. John worked for his family farm and trucking business for most of his life. He also worked for the Pennsylvania Game commission for 12 years as well as a part time security guard at Peek'n Peak Resort.

Better known to his friends as “Woj”, John was an avid outdoorsman and a recognizable face on the Erie steelhead creeks.  He loved nothing better than to talk fishing and hunting, and to help others learn the sports.  He especially enjoyed biking with Vicki and fishing with Shannon, Kenny, and Pastor Tim.  John will be remembered as a kind and loving son, husband, father, and friend.

In addition to his mother, John is survived by his wife, Vicki (Nichols) Wojtowicz whom he married December 7, 1979 in Garland; and his daughter, Shannon (Kenneth) Clarke of Utah.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 25, 2019 at 2pm at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 North Main Street, Youngsville, Pa 16371. The Rev. Timothy Olsen, pastor of the Garland Presbyterian Church, will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Garland Presbyterian Church, Garland, Pa. 16416. Condolences to the family may be made at

Very sorry to hear of John's passing. I will always remember what great friends he and my Uncle Boomer were and we can maybe take a small comfort in knowing they're up there together sitting along a stream full of the monster fish.

Dear Mary, Vicki, Shannon
Sorry to hear of John’s passing. I was home this summer and visited with Mary at the Rouse Home. We shared many stories about us working at the New Process together! But I didn’t get a chance to see John. But one day I will see him again in heaven. I have been praying for you all. I will put you all on my Sunday School prayer list this morning. God Bless Mary

I want to offer my deepest sympathies to John's family.. John was one of my brother Geoff Kay's best friends.. Oh, the things they did and the places they went..!! I remember many a late night trip to Garland as Geoff and I drove John home and deposited him on the family back porch.. He was so fun loving and my family was always happy to have him in our kitchen.. They were infectiously full of themselves made everyone laugh.. It is so very hard to imagine both of them gone but I keep the precious memories of them always in my heart.. Together and happy.....those memories keep them alive always..

Mary and family, my deep condolences for your loss. John was the nicest guy. He was my neighbor for a while and saved my dog during a flood, risking his own life. When I think of the time I spent in Garland, was the only time I felt at home. Riding bike with Grandma (Bertha) to come and see Mary is one of my fondest memories. God Bless.
