Linda M. Whiteley, 75, of Falconer, NY and formerly of Bear Lake, PA passed away Sunday morning, May 23, 2021, at the Lutheran Home in Jamestown while surrounded by her three daughters.

Linda was born February 4, 1946 in Corry, PA to the late Walter and Elsie (McGraw) Newhouse Sr. She grew up in Bear Lake, PA and graduated from Panama Central High School in NY in 1963. After graduation Linda worked as a secretary at the Highway Dept. and then for the Warren County Commissioners Office. She served as Tax Assessor for Freehold township for several years and worked at Blair in various areas until medically retired in 1990. Linda continued to actively volunteer. She was Treasurer and then Vice President of a Stroke Group out of Hamot Medical Center. During her time with the stroke group, she was often asked to speak at local colleges about her experience and survival as a stroke and aneurysm patient. She was very proud to help them with their scientific research on both topics. Linda attended the Ashville Church in Ashville, NY where she helped manage and run the food pantry for several years. Once Linda moved into the Lutheran Home, she became President of Social Activities and worked closely with the staff to help them understand and organize activities and events that interested all residents on her entire floor. This also influenced other areas of the home. Linda was also an R.S.V. P volunteer at the Lutheran Home which fostered civic engagement thru the community with a variety of entities such as Salvation Army Food Pantry and St. Susan's Soup Kitchen.

Linda is survived by her brother Walter (Nina) Newhouse Jr. of Panama, NY; her daughters, Michele (Nubia) Salazar Conklin of Boston, MA, Rochele (Bob) McClearn of Mercer, PA, and Susan (Jay) Saar of Nashville, TN; her grandchildren, Sadie Galloway, Kyle McLaughlin, Dominick SanSoucie, Zachary Saar, Anika Saar, Montserrate Salazar, and a great grandchild, Sabastian Galloway.

Friends will be received on Thursday, May 27, at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services from 11am-1pm at which time a memorial service will be held there with the Rev. Dan Cook of Ashville, officiating. Burial will be in the Bear Lake Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made to The Lutheran Foundation, 715 Falconer St., Jamestown, NY 14701 or Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave, Lakewood, NY 14750.

Whitely Family: Please accept our condolences in your loss. Sue-we are thinking especially of you at this time. You are in our prayers at this time! I believe that your mom was a band parent and I got to know her through band!

I would like to express my sincere condolences to Linda's family. My thoughts and prayers are with you Jay, Susan and children and your extended family. I only met Linda once, at Susan's bridal shower, and she seemed like such a nice person. I see that she was a wonderful volunteer for several causes, using her talents and caring for the good of others. I am holding you all in my heart and prayers in the days and weeks ahead. May the good Lord give you strength and comfort.
