Brian Smith Obituary

Brian P. Smith, 43, of Youngsville, PA, passed away Saturday November 13, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie after a hard fight with a brief illness.

Brian was born in Jamestown, NY to the late Paul Smith and Ruthann Lord Smith, who survives him. He worked with troubled youth for his entire career, which spanned over 21 years. His current position was with Beacon Light as the Director of Children's Community Based Services. He graduated from Pine Valley Central School in 1996.  He continued his education at Grove City College, where he was a member of Delta Iota Kappa Fraternity and played football completing his Bachelor's degree in 2001. He then completed his Masters at Slippery Rock University in 2002 and became a National Certified Counselor.

Brian was a family man. His wife and children were his top priority. After several years living in Grove City, PA the family moved to Youngsville, PA in 2011. They started Hilltop Sunrise Farm, which grew into an overgrown hobby and challenging adventure. A family passion for the livestock show circuit was cultivated and Brian spent many hours developing this passion with his children and other youth as they worked with show pigs and cattle. Brian was active in the Warren County 4-H, where he and Stephanie were co-leaders of the Multi Species Club for 5 years.

Brian was an avid reader and outdoorsman. He enjoyed turkey and deer hunting. He loved fishing and more recently golfing with his family. He enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends all over the country.

Brian led by example. He never met a stranger and was willing to help anyone in need. His love for sports and youth led to him to coach with baseball. He was willing to try any outdoor activity or sport. He strongly encouraged pro-social activities for youth and championed for adolescent mental health and care. His passing has left a huge void in his family and in the community.

Brian is survived by the love of his life, Stephanie McCadams-Smith, whom he married August 4, 2001 in South Dayton, NY; his children, Paul Isaac Smith and Katharine Smith, both at home; his sisters; Lori (Mario) Camacho of Charleston, SC and Marsha (Matt) Smith of Cherry Creek, NY; father and mother-in-law Michael Van and Sue McCadams of McKenzie, TN; sister-in-law Megan Yates of McKenzie, TN and his nieces and nephews, Loren and Luisa Smith and RJ and Mary Poff.

In addition to his father, Brian was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bill and Pauline Lord and paternal grandparents, Ralph and Doris Smith.

Friends and family will be received on Friday from 3-7pm at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church 179 Davis St. in Youngsville and Saturday from 4-5pm followed by funeral service at 5pm officiated by Rev. Ricky D. Nelson, Lead Pastor at First UMC in Bradford, PA.
