Carl H. Nelson, 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on November 4, 2021.
He was born on October 17, 1935 to Hugh and Vina Westfall Nelson. He graduated from Warren Area High School in 1952, where he was an active wrestler during high school. Carl was the first wrestler from Warren County to go to districts, After high school, Carl went to Stevens Trade School in Lancaster, Pa. and on November 27, 1954, Carl married Virginia Dinger.
Carl served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, NC. Where he made 34 jumps as a paratrooper. After his service, Carl worked for 34 years at the New Process Co., later known as Blair Corp. He worked his way up to assistant vice president of the Irvine Plant before retiring in 1991. Carl was also a member of the Youngsville Legion Post 658. He and his wife Virginia spent summers at Black Lake, NY., where he loved to fish. After his retirement, they traveled to Australia, Hawaii, Yellowstone, Las Vegas and Alaska to name a few. He loved hunting, fishing, and bowling. One of his favorite things to do was ride on his Kubota.
Carl was a people person. He loved talking to everyone he met, whether he knew them or not. He always told a little anecdote to people hoping he would “leave something with them.” His favorite saying was “I don’t do that for everybody.” Most of all, he loved his family. They were his whole world and he would do anything for them. All you had to do was call him and he would drop what he was doing and go to help. Carl was an all around good guy. Heaven certainly gained an angel.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Virginia, and his daughter Michelle, who he both loved dearly, and his favorite son-in-law Rich (he only has the one, lol); his 2 grandsons who he was so proud of, Jeremy(Kerstin)Wyman and Jason(April)Wyman; 5 great grandchildren who lit up his life, C.J., Tage, Annika, Sydnie, and J.J.; 2 sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, James and Alice Dinger; 3 brothers, Leon, George and Floyd; 3 sisters, Lois, Florence, and Mary.
