Claude "Dink" Luvison Obituary

Claude J. (Dink) Luvison, 95, of Youngsville, PA, beloved husband, father and family patriarch, passed away Sunday morning, December 24, 2023, after a brief hospitalization.

Born July 8, 1928, he was the son of Ruggero and Amalia Luvison, who immigrated to America from Italy in 1927. He was a long-time parishioner of Saint Luke’s Catholic Church in his earlier years. A graduate of Youngsville High School in 1947, Dink was a standout on the gridiron, and according to his wife of 73 years, “he was the most handsome player on the team.” He briefly attended Case Western Reserve University after high school before serving with the 28th Infantry, US Army, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and in Ulm, Germany. On September 30, 1950, he married the love of his life, Meredythe Nan (Warner) Luvison, who survives. They raised six children and enjoyed decades of married life together watching their family grow in the stone home they built together in Youngsville.

Dink was a gifted stone mason who spent most of his working life as the owner-operator of Roger Luvison & Son, taking over the masonry business from his father. Dink remained active in the family company into his 80s, in partnership with his two eldest sons. In addition to old-school quality and workmanship, he will be remembered as a man who cared for his employees and their families over many years, helping them whenever he could. He also enjoyed teaching masonry skills to younger tradesmen.  Personally, Dink was a big personality -- an outgoing and robust man who thoroughly enjoyed the company of others. He enjoyed time outdoors, most notably with his bird dogs, who were constant companions and fixtures in his life. He was also proud to have harvested the last of many whitetailed deer, a buck, at the age of 94.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Claudia (the late Robert) Thelin of Warren and Natalie (Craig) Ostergaard of Pioneer, CA; two sons, Matthew (Penny) Luvison of Youngsville and Kelly (Karen) Luvison of Sayre, PA; and 10 treasured grandchildren: Melissa, Tracey, Rory and Kirk Luvison; Haley Stringer; Nadine Westover; Lindsay Wagner and Lacy Thompson; and Carly and Madissen Ostergaard. Also surviving are a number of special great grandchildren: Kylie, Cameron, Josh, Leo, Jasmine, Brady, Collin, Garen, Kaya, Ella, Mia and Phoenix and a number of adult nieces and nephews with whom uncle Dink was close.

Dink was preceded in death by two sons, Jef (Marlene) Luvison and Kim Luvison, and a cherished grandson, Joshua Luvison. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother Norge (Eva) Luvison and a sister, Valda (the late John) Papalia.

The Nelson Funeral Home, Youngsville, is in charge of arrangements. There will be no calling hours. There will be a celebration of Dink’s life at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Saint Luke’s Catholic Church in Youngsville, American Legion Post 658, Youngsville, or the charity of your choice.
