Obituary

Daniel William McLaughlin

It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Daniel William McLaughlin announces his passing into the hands of God on Friday evening, January 27, 2023, at the age of 58. Dan was born on September 4, 1964, in Titusville, PA, the son of Sarah Hunter McLaughlin of Tidioute, PA, and the late William Max McLaughlin.
Dan graduated from Tidioute High School in 1983, courted the love of his life, Pam, who he made his wife on April 12, 1986, and served in the Army Reserve for six years. He was employed by McLaughlin Construction for over 35 years, and, after the passing of his father, served as owner/operator of the company.
Dan was a devout Catholic, member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Tidioute, served as Deputy Grand Knight for the Erie Diocese Knights of Columbus until, recently, was named Grand Knight. He served as an altar boy, usher, and tithe proctor for St. John’s Church; and as Confirmation sponsor for his niece and goddaughter, Amanda Gray.
Dan was a member of the Tidioute Area Volunteer Fire Dept. for over 30 years, serving as a board member, Lieutenant, and Captain. He marched in many parades, organized many golf scrambles to raise funds for the fire department, was very active in the Tidioute Little League, and served as a coach and umpire for several leagues, for many years.
Dan was awarded Tidioute’s Outstanding Citizens Award in 2006. He chaired and served on the committee for the Pennsylvania State Fishing Tournament Junior Fishing Derby and organized the Tidioute one pitch ball tournament in Tidioute. He was known to have saved at least two young people from drowning.
In addition to his wife Pam, Dan will be dearly missed by his son Chad, Chad’s partner Megan Sanders, and three small granddaughters Remi, Peyton, and Haidyn; mother Sarah McLaughlin; mother-in-law Allene Benedict; siblings Michelle (Daniel) Gray of Warren, PA, Timothy McLaughlin of Warren, PA, and Joseph (Terri) McLaughlin of Oil City, PA; and siblings-in-law Debbie Jackson of Salamanca, NY, Buddy (Nicole) Jackson of Beaufort, NC, Randy (Patty) Johnson of Long Island, NY, Tammy (Nick) Brunecz of Busti, NY, Terry Jackson of Steamburg, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father William McLaughlin, brothers Todd Christopher and Troy Benjamin McLaughlin, and sister-in-law Lori McLaughlin.
Dan was the embodiment of love, charity, and community. He loved his family, his friends, the town of Tidioute, and, they loved him!
Dan will be carried to his resting place at Jacqueline Cemetery by pallbearers; brothers Tim and Joe McLaughlin, dear friends Mike Heenan and Alex Sabella, and nephews Rian McLaughlin and Craig Jackson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 1 from 4 to 7 PM at the Tidioute Fire Dept. Hall. A Funeral Mass for family and friends will be conducted by Father Joseph Kalinowski at 11 AM on Thursday morning, February 2 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Tidioute, followed by interment at the Jacqueline Cemetery in Tidioute.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Dan’s name to the Tidioute Volunteer Fire Dept. 224 Main St. Tidioute, PA; and to Saint John’s Catholic Church, 25 First St., Tidioute, PA. 16351. Condolences may be made to the family at nelsonfuneralhome.net.
