Fred Peters Obituary

Fred Peters was born January 23, 1947, in Warren, Pennsylvania to Raymond and Helen Peters. At 11 years old, he developed a life-long passion for the building of and flying of RC model airplanes. A 1964 graduate of Youngsville Area High School, Fred joined the Army and was stationed in Korea from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam Era,  receiving the Order of the Sliver Rose due to his exposure to Agent Orange. In 1975 he obtained his amateur radio license (HAM)  and with his call sign WB3IUG, he enjoyed talking to people all over the world. In 1994 he earned his associate’s degree in automation and instrumentation from Penn College in Williamsport, PA.

Fred was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 658 (Youngsville, Pennsylvania), Amvets, and the VFW. He was also a member of the Eagles Club. He was a founding member of the now defunct Kinzua Aero Modelers and a life member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). In an effort to expand his aeronautical expertise, Fred worked to obtain his private pilot’s license in the early 1980s but eventually decided that expertise was better used on the ground.

Fred was proceeded in death by his parents Raymond and Helen, his sisters Patti and Sandi, his nephews Greg and Jason, and a niece Monica.
