J. Kent Thompson, 83, formerly of Sugar Grove, PA, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Sarah Reed Senior Living Center in Erie, PA.

He was born in Warren PA on October 3, 1940 to the late James and Laura (Gates) Thompson. Kent was previously a long time member of the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church and was on the Board of Directors for the Warren County Transit Authority. He was a skilled swimmer. In his teen years he saved two young boys from drowning and was recognized with a Presidential Medal.  He realized early in life he had a love for anything that went fast which turned into career and life long hobby of all things cars.  Kent had an unwavering love for his family and his lord and savior Jesus Christ. He never missed an opportunity to share about his family and his faith.

He is survived by his children, Jane (Lynn) Johnson of Erie, Brent (Alma) Thompson of Columbus, OH, Stewart (Tammy) Thompson of Brocton, NY, Rick (Wyvonnia) Thompson of Warren and John (Samantha) Thompson of Stillwater, OK; his brother, Douglas (Celia) Thompson of Youngsville; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Kent was preceded in death by his wife, D. Lorraine Thompson; his daughter, Janet Miles and a brother, Daniel Thompson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3, at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church, 210 Jamestown, Street, Sugar Grove, PA 16350, from 1-3pm at which time a memorial service will be held there.  A private burial will take place in Cherry Hill Cemetery in Sugar Grove.
