Joan Coffaro Obituary

Joan Margaret (Sanders) Coffaro, 92, of Sugar Grove, PA, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023 at the Rouse Warren County Home.

She was born on January 3, 1931, a daughter to the late Hobart M. and Mabel E. (Brown) Sanders. She is survived by her son, Joseph Paul Coffaro of Sugar Grove; her daughter, Carol Lynn (Robert) Coffaro Johnson of Warsaw, NY; her grandchildren, Dr. Hobart (Nadiya) Carr, Joanna (Brandon) Ferman, Elisabeth (Lake) Graboski, Warren (Vanessa) Carr, Thomas Frank (Zoe) Carr, Rob (Kim) Coffaro, Ben (Holly) Coffaro, Jill Coffaro Miller, Rebecca (Jesse) Horton, Frank (Zoe) Johnson and Samantha Johnson; her great-grandchildren, Graham, Grace & Lola Carr, Carson Ferman, Dion Graboski, Stella & Daphne Carr, Gina, Julia and Sophia Coffaro, Clayton (Mae) Coffaro, Kara (Addison) Gingrich, Sydni & Cedric Miller, Thaddaeus, Theodore, Ella & Gabriel Johnson, Cooper & Lillian Horton; her great-great-grandson, Elon Gingrich; her sister-in-laws, Sue Tourtellotte and Myrline Sanders; a brother-in-law, Marion (Ellen) Coffaro as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joan was a life long resident of Sugar Grove. She was born in the family farmhouse and lived on the same country block until she could no longer be at home. Joan was a life long member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church. 

She was raised on a turkey and chicken farm that she put many hours into until she met her husband, Frank. Together, they owned and operated Coffaro’s Custom Butchering. Joan worked at their family business from 1960-1993, when they retired. They then raised beef cattle along with many other animals. She loved farming and plant growing. Joan was active with her grandchildren in the 4H and showings. Family was everything to her and loved spending time with them.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Frank Paul Coffaro; a daughter, Priscilla Ann Carr; a great-granddaughter, Avery Ann Ferman and her brothers, Robert T., Richard J., Ray D. and John H. Sanders.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 1st at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, 1 Race St., Sugar Grove, PA 16350, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at which time a funeral service will be held there with the Rev. Sheila R. Auer, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in the Sugar Grove Wesleyan Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, PO Box 225, Sugar Grove, PA 16350, Hospice of Warren County, 1 Main Ave., Warren, PA 16365 or to Friends of the Rouse Home, 701 Rouse Ave., Youngsville, PA 16371.
