Larry Dean Grubbs, 76, of Tidioute, PA, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Corry Manor.
He was born on February 8, 1946, a son to the late Ezra and Mable (Moore) Grubbs. After high school, Dean, as he was known, proudly served the US Army, retiring after 24 years of service as an Aviation mechanic. He was a very decorated soldier who spent 2 of his years in Vietnam. Dean was a purple heart recipient and was awarded the following, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert Badge and Master Aircraft Crewman Badge.
He was a member of the Tidioute American Legion, the Tidioute VFW Post 8803 where he also served as the Commander for several years and a Master Mason. He enjoyed drag racing and loved flying airplanes and helicopters which he spent 22 years doing it in the service.
He is survived by his son, David Grubbs of Atoka, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Summerlee and Laray Grubbs, both of Ozark, Arkansas; his siblings, Gary (Laurie) Grubbs of Largo, FL and Marshall (Rose) Grubbs of Portville, NY; his ‘sis’, Sheryl Hulings of Tidioute, PA; his caregiver and niece, Monica (Chris) Morgan of Tidioute, PA and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Marion and Hal Grubbs and 3 sisters, Marcella Meade, Bethel Fauzey and Edith Kinnear.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 29th from 1-4pm at the Tidioute Volunteer Fire Dept. Social Hall, 224 Main Street, Tidioute, PA 16351. The Tidioute VFW will provide full military honors at the firehall at 1pm.
