Mary "Joan" Wimer Obituary

Mary (Joan) Wimer, 79 of Tidioute, Pa passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with COPD.

She was born on February 3, 1942, in New Castle, Pa daughter of the late Edward and Ann (Thorton) Harrah.

Joan graduated for (NE-CA) New Castle High School in 1960; where she was an avid basketball player and worked after school from the age of 13 at Castle Hills Riding Stable in New Castle, Pa where her love of horses first began. Upon graduation, she worked at a jewelry store in downtown New Castle and later moved to the coastal town of Waterford, Connecticut from 1963 to 1977. It was here that her dear friends became her family. During that time she was a stay at home mom raising her four children and was very involved in their school activities. When all of the children were of school age it was then that she pursued part-time work outside her home at Pines Furniture Store in New London, Connecticut. In 1977 the family moved back to Pennsylvania building a house on a little dirt road in Yellow Hammer off of Route 666, nestled in the beautiful mountains of the Allegheny National Forest. She went on to work for 10 years at Penn Filter Service in West Hickory, Pa then on to her dream job at the Flynn W Ranch in Kellettville, Pa working in the Gift/Tack Shop scheduling trail rides and cabin rentals. She made numerous lifelong wonderful friends along the way. It was at the ranch that her love of horses finally came full circle when she was able to ride and work around horses again. There is nothing she enjoyed more in her free time than trail riding in the woods. It was at this time that her love of animals and nature soon became a passion for photography that created numerous breathtaking wildlife photos. Over the years she loved feeding the birds and taking care of numerous abandoned dogs and cats giving them all a loving home. She loved cooking for her family and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers Football games. Outside of her home and work she was a life time member of the VFW Post 8803, Tidioute, Pa and a member of the Tidioute First Presbyterian Church. Throughout her life she was a pillar of strength for her friends and family creating life long memories for those she loved.

Surviving are her two daughters, Victoria L. Wimer of Tidioute, Pa and her companion Theodore L. Russell, Michelle A. Means and her husband Robert (RC) of Brookville, Pa; her son, James (Jim) K. Wimer and his wife Susan of St Marys, Pa; three sisters, Eileen Guerin, of Philadelphia, Pa, Kathie Anzalone of New Castle, Pa and Dotti Harrah Walker of Pittsburgh, Pa; seven grandchildren, Briana M. Wimer, Jared S. Kennedy, Desiree K. McChesney, Olivia R. Wimer, Daniel J. Wimer, Brady R. Means and Kamden W. Means.
