Myron E. Nelson

Myron “Heavy” Nelson, 86, of Youngsville, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2023 at the Rouse Home after a short illness.

Myron was born October 30, 1936, in Warren to the late Edward and Mary Nelson. He was a 1955 graduate of Youngsville High School where he excelled in football and track.  Myron worked as the supervisor of the heat treat department at the National Forge in Irvine for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He also was a tremendous employee of the Nelson Funeral Home for many years.

Myron was a very social guy and the list of club’s where he belonged is too expansive (and expensive) to list, but the Youngsvillle American Legion Post 658 was certainly his second home. Also notable was his work with the Lion’s Club, a two time Exalted Ruler of the Warren Elk’s Club, and was a 50 year member of the F&AM  Stillwater Lodge in Youngsville. Myron enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was a founding member of the Youngsville Wednesday Men’s Golf League at Maplehurst Country Club. Myron was also an accomplished pianist and singer, for many years he was member of the Barbershop Quartet “The Mischief Makers”, and was a member of many choir and quartets over the years. Spending time outdoors was something Myron also enjoyed. For many years, he would take his family on fishing trips to Canada with family friends from Youngsville. 

Surviving Myron are his children, Linda (Randy) Dickerson of Wilmington NC., Steven (Michele Maille) Nelson of Youngsville, and Scott (Colette) Nelson also of Youngsville; 2 sisters Elsa Manelick of Youngsville and Karen McNeely of Kissimmee, Florida; his grandchildren, Lea and Cameron Nelson, Robbie and Sarah Dickerson, and Tyler, Bergen and Ryleigh Nelson; 2 great-grandchildren; and his companion of 20 years Judi Eastman. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Lillian Fandt.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 20th, from 4-7 pm at the Free Methodist Church in Youngsville. A funeral service will be held there on Saturday at 11 am, with the Rev. Nancy Schwanke officiating. Private burial will be in Youngsville Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to a charity of choice.
