Paul Johnson Obituary

Paul Edwin Johnson, 81, of Youngsville PA, passed away at UPMC Hamot TNICU in Erie PA on January 10, 2024.

Paul was born on October 5, 1942, in Warren, PA, the son of the late C. Walter and Emma Erickson Johnson.  Paul graduated from Warren High School in 1960.  He marched with the Cornplanter Drum and Bugle Corps in 1958, 1959, 1960 and 1964.  Paul joined the Marine Corps in October 1960 and was discharged from active duty in October 1963.  He was a radio telegrapher attaining the rank of Corporal (E-4). Paul was very proud to be a Marine and was always wearing a Marine baseball cap- usually one that said “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”

Paul started working at the National Forge in January 1964 and retired with heart problems in July 1999.  He worked in the main Heat Treat for most of his time there.  Although Paul retired in 1999, he never stopped “working.”  He was always out in his garage or yard working.  If he wasn’t productive, he wasn’t happy!  Paul would always be trucking around Youngsville, making daily trips to the store, and stopping to buy lottery tickets and visit his special friend Nikki at Miss Millie’s.

On October 7, 1967, Paul married the love of his life, the former Judith Cadile.  Judy preceded him in death on November 3, 2006, after 39 years of marriage.  Together Paul and Judy built a wonderful life in Youngsville where they raised their 3 children.  Paul worked hard to support his family and was truly a great husband, father, and grandfather.

Besides his parents and wife, Paul was preceded in death by his daughter Laura Hummell on December 8, 2018; three brothers- C. Douglas (Doug) Johnson in January 2006, Walter R. (Rudy) in June 1989 and Robert L. (Rob) in June 2016; sister Beverly Yerg in April 2021; brother-in-law Robert Yerg in February 2023.  He was also preceded in death by his in-laws Dot and Tony Cadile, sister-in-law Connie (Cadile) Stirling in December 2009 and her husband James Stirling in January 2010 and sister-in-law Toni Cadile Plaskon in November 2017.  He was preceded in death by nephews Alan Duane Johnson in July 2020 and David Yerg in December 2023.  Paul had a lifelong friend in William (Bill) Danielson who passed away in April 2023.

Paul is survived by daughter Sherry Johnson and her partner Jared Bloomgren, along with Sherry’s son Jacob Stover; his son Paul A. Johnson and his wife Kimberly, along with their daughters Paige and Kirsten.  He is also survived by his son-in-law Jeffrey Hummell, along with his and Laura’s children-Emily and her wife Abby, Jeffrey Jr. and Glenn. Other survivors include his sisters-in-law Sally (Doug) Johnson of Poughkeepsie NY, Evelyn (Rudy) Johnson of Rockford IL and Patricia (Rob) Johnson of Philadelphia and several nephews and nieces who were very special to him.  Paul is also survived by two good friends who he had known for many years- Jim Brindis of Downey CA and Barb Brindis of Phoenixville PA.

Visitation and calling hours will be held on Monday January 15th from 11am-1pm with the funeral service at 1pm at the Nelson Funeral Home, 314 North Main St, Youngsville PA.
