Paul F. Ransom Obituary

Paul F. Ransom, 84, of Erie and formerly of Youngsville, PA, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025 at UPMC Hamot hospital in Erie.


He was born on April 9, 1941 in Warren, a son to the late Paul and Frances (Fletcher) Ransom. Paul was a 1959 Youngsville High School graduate and a US Navy Veteran. He worked at the National Forge for 38 years. Paul was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend. He found joy in the simplest moments, especially spending time outdoors tending to his yard and proudly watching his grandchildren grow. His love, humor, and hardworking spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.


Paul is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Mary Lou (Smith) Ransom, whom he married on August 4, 1984 at the Saran Lutheran Church in Youngsville. He is also survived by his children, Brad Ransom, Mary Beth (Craig) Hannah, Lisa Grant, Melissa (Bruce) Nelson, Paula (Eric) Moore, Amy (Gary) Johnson and Lacey Ransom, his step-children, Amy (John) Cronin, Holly (Harold) Simon, Misty Koscincki and Carrie (Brian) Hendrickson, a brother, Douglas Ransom, 24 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.


In addition to his parents, Paul is preceded in death by his grandson, Gage Hendrickson.


Visitation will be at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main Street, Youngsville, PA 16371, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 1-3pm at which time a funeral will be held there with the Rev. Nancy Schwanke, pastor of the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church, officiating. The Youngsville American Legion Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
