Philip Baumgardner Obituary

Philip D. Baumgardner, 96, of Youngsville, PA, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at the Warren Manor.

He was born in Warren, PA, on March 12, 1927 to the late Guy E. and Dorothy (Davis) Baumgardner. He graduated in 1944 from Youngsville High School and went on to serve in the Unites States Navy during WWII, stationed in Okinawa with the rank of S1c (Seaman First Class). His decorations included, the Pacific Heart Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and a Victory Medal.

Philip worked most of his life as a carpenter, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Youngsville First UM Church, the Youngsville American Legion Post #658, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Warren County Shrine Club, Joseph Warren Lodge #726, the Zem Zem Shrine in Erie and Scottish Rite in Coudersport, PA. He was a former member of the Youngsville Firemen’s Band, Warren Rescue Band, Jamestown Old Timers Band, Zem Zem Brass Band in Erie and the Elks Band in Warren. Philip enjoyed raising horses, working with wood, gardening and reading.

He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Pauline (Waychoff) Baumgardner, whom he married on June 2, 1950 in Townville, PA; his daughter, Kathy (Rick) Abplanalp of Youngsville; his son, Randy (Alicia) Baumgardner of Youngsville, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

In addition to his parents, Philip was preceded in death by his daughter, Penny Felt and his brother, Guy “Ed” Baumgardner.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N Main St, Youngsville, PA 16371, from 10-11am at which time a memorial service will be held there with the Rev. Nancy Schwanke, officiating. The Youngsville American Legion Honor Guard will provide full military honors.

Memorial donations may be made to the Warren Manor, 682 Pleasant Dr., Warren, PA 16365 or to a charity of choice.
