Richard E. Thomson, Sr., 76, of Youngsville, PA, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2023 at Rouse Warren County Home.
He was born on October 14, 1946 in Warren, PA, a son to the late David and Vernice (Schweitzer) Thomson. Dick is survived by his sons, Richard Thomson Jr. and Daniel Thomson, both of Starbrick; 2 granddaughters, Melissa (Shawn) Harkins and Maddison Thomson; 3 great-grandchildren and a step-daughter, Crystal (Brian) Wheeler of State College, PA.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Rhonda (Vance) Thomson on September 18, 2015, his brother, David C. Thomson in 2016 and a step-daughter, Carrie Vance in 2022.
Dick was a 1965 graduate of Warren Area High School and then went on to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a heavy equipment operator and maintenance man. He retired from Betts Industries in Warren, PA after 40 years of service. Dick was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, the Youngsville American Legion Post #658, Past Master of the Stillwater Lodge #547, F&AM, the Youngsville Vol. Fire Dept. for 40+ years where he also served as fire police, Coudersport Consistory, Warren Commandry #63 Knights Templar, and Farrah Grotto. He was proud to be a part of the Youngsville American Legion Honor Guard and enjoyed going on cruises, golfing and dressing up as “Santa” for many organizations.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 28 at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 N. Main Street, Youngsville, PA 16371, from 10-1pm at which time a memorial service will be held there with the Rev. Rick Hamrick, pastor of the Youngsville Free Methodist Church, officiating. The Youngsville American Legion Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
