Sarah J. Montgomery, 63, passed away on October 4 at her home in Tidioute.
She was born January 5, 1960 to the late Calvin M., Jr. and Betty G. Montgomery. Sarah attended school in Tidioute and graduated with the Class of 1977. She resided in Tidioute, working and caring for her parents prior to their passing. Sarah was adventurous and brave, which led to her move to California. She formed many close friendships there and as always, was a caregiver to those who needed help. She grew tired of life in the fast lane and moved back to her home in Tidioute. Sarah worked in casinos in the West and at Kmart in the East. She received many commendations for being a valued employee. Her most meaningful work was helping her neighbors at the Tidioute Towers, transporting them to Dr. appointments, shopping, and making sure they had a meal to enjoy.
Sarah was married three times, but children were just not meant to be. Her true loves were her fur baby companions. She could be seen walking her best friend and adorable Bichon Frise, Curly, many times a day, whether it be in sunshine, rain, or snow. Curly’s recent passing broke Sarah’s heart.
Sarah enjoyed arts and crafts, and created beautiful jewelry, which she gifted to her friends. She also loved to bake, to the benefit of her friends, relatives, and neighbors who enjoyed her goodies.
Sarah is survived by her Uncle Bill Johnson, who treated her like a daughter. Uncle Bill and Aunt Donna helped Sarah throughout her life and she in turn was a great help to them. Also surviving are Sarah’s cousins, the Johnsons, Lynn, Tom, Nancy Nansen, Sue Shields, and Mark; the Bakers, Byron, Darlene Perry, Pauline Craker, and Art; the Ludwigs, Paula Johnson and Darla Bolton. When we converged at Grandma & Grandpa Montgomery’s on Tidioute Creek Road, shenanigans ensued. We all have the best childhood memories of our fun with Sarah. Also surviving are many special friends, who have always been a huge part of Sarah’s life and will miss her great sense of humor, generosity, and most of all, true friendship.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, Sarah was preceded in death by her aunts, uncles, two cousins, Jeffrey Baker and David Ludwig, and her Godparents, Joe and Ethel Thomas. We are Sarah’s family by circumstance, good luck, and choice. Her parents met during Calvin’s military deployment in the Korean War, then returned to the United States, never to return to Betty’s homeland of Japan. She was the best mom and aunt ever, sharing wonderful bits of her culture with us, and a special addition to our family, loved by everyone.
Sarah was a member of the Tidioute United Methodist Church and Post 8803 VFW Auxiliary.
Calling hours will be held at the Nelson Funeral Home, 314 N. Main St., Youngsville, PA on Saturday , October 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow at 12:30 in Tidioute at the Presbyterian Church fellowship hall, 196 Main St., for Sarah’s friends and relatives to join to honor her life and share memories.
Donations in Sarah’s memory may be directed to Paws Along the River Humane Society, 212 Elm Street, Warren, PA 16365 or a charity of your choice.
