Sidney Haight Obituary

Sidney C. Haight Jr., 87, of Pittsfield, PA, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023 at Kinzua Healthcare & Rehab Center, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Warren, PA on August 1, 1936 and was a life-time-resident of Pittsfield, PA. He was the son of the late Sidney and Myrtle (Morrison) Haight Sr., of Pittsfield. Sidney married Gail Hazeltine on December 3, 1955, whom he loved dearly.

He was a long standing member of the Pittsfield Wesleyan Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and served as a Trustee.

Sidney attended school grades 1-8 at Pittsfield Elementary School and 9-12 at Youngsville High School. He served in the US Army from 1955-1957. He was stationed at Fort Dix, NJ and then at Fort Myers, VA where he was in the Presidential Honor Guard of Cassion Section. Returning from the Army, he worked at the National Forge from 1957-1966 and he then founded, owned and operated S&K Mfg. Co. in Pittsfield from 1966-2000 when he retired.

He was an avid hunter; he lived to hunt. He had many hunting adventures not only in his own back yard, but in Montana and Colorado. Even after his recent stroke, he was determined he was going to get his deer. He shot and 8-point with his bow, sitting on a four wheeler. He was pretty pleased; and had another hunting story to share.

Sidney is survived by his wife, Gail; his 3 children, Alan L. (Beth) Haight of Youngsville, Kathleen A. Haight (Joe) Anderson of Rossiter, PA and Randall T. (Vickie) Haight of Pittsfield; 5 grandchildren, Janet Haight (Shawn) Swenson of New Freedom, PA, Gregory Haight of Warren, Melissa Haight of Charlottsville, VA, Kara Haight and Graham Haight, both of Pittsfield; 3 great-grandchildren, Caid, Ilia and Aubryn Swenson of New Freddom, PA; a sister, Carol Haight Minugh of Ludlow and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Sidney was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia McGee and 2 brothers, Terry and Douglas Haight.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pittsfield Wesleyan Methodist Church, 164 Main Street, Pittsfield, PA 16340 or to the Garland VFD, 31 Bailey Lane, Pittsfield, PA 16340.
