Wilbur W. “Wes” Augenstein, 89, of Youngsville, PA, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA.
He was born on March 4, 1935 in Mount Vernon, OH, a son to the late Wilbur H. and Wava (Shilling) Augenstein. Wes served our country in the Marine Corp before working for the National Forge for 12 years. He then went on to work as a carpenter and instructor for the Carpenters Union for 25 years. Wes enjoyed wood carving since 1948 and was a member of the Carving Club. He was a proud member, leader, and mentor of the Boy Scouts and scouted for all of 70 years, earning many awards for his achievements within the organization. He also instructed for the Carpenters Local #1014. Wes was a member of the New Life Church, previously the Evangelical United Methodist Church, in Youngsville, PA. Mission work was dear to Wes’s heart, and he especially enjoyed participating in EUMC's mission program entitled "Vacation with a Purpose".
He is survived by his children, Eric (Melanie) Augenstein of Tidioute, PA and Laurie (Eric) Burkholder of Chambersburg, PA as well as his grandchildren, Nathan Augenstein, Haeli (Brian) Darcangelo, Mitchell Augenstein, Hannah Augenstein, Alea (Andrew) Simburger, and Cameron Burkholder.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anne (Schwanke) Augenstein and his brother, John Augenstein.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2025 at the New Life Church, 18 Second Street, Youngsville, PA 16371, from 2-3pm at which time a celebration of life service will be held there with the Rev. Jeff Canter, pastor, officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the: Chief Cornplanter Council, Boy Scouts of America - 316 Fourth Ave, Warren PA 16365.
