Harold A. Kiser Jr., 93, of Irvine, PA, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA after a brief illness.
He was born June 14, 1925 in Warren, PA, a son to the late Harold A. and Alice (Fitzgerald) Kiser Sr. His family moved to a farm in Forest Co. in 1931 and then moved back in 1937. In May of 1943, Harold enlisted in the US Navy and was one of the Seabee’s stationed on the islands of the South Pacific. He spent 2 years there until he was sent back to the states and was honorably discharged in April of 1946.
He worked 40 years at the National Forge (Elwood) in Irvine and was very active in local sports. He bowled for 40 years, played softball for 15 years and shot trap for 45 years, earning All American 9 times. He had 2 Hall of Fame inductions, one for Pennsylvania State Trap Shooting Assoc. and one for the Warren Co. Sports. He was a lifetime member of the Brokenstraw Fish and Game Club, the Busti and Sugar Grove Trap Clubs, the AmVets, the NRA and ATA Trap Shooting Organization. He helped organize the Warren Co. Trap League and served as secretary/treasurer for 15 years at the start of it. He was the registered Shoot Manager for 25 years at the Bradford Gun Club and served as an hunting safety education instructor for 25 years.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Shirley J. (Andersen) Kiser, whom he married February 14, 1948. He is also survived by a daughter, B. June (Gilbert) Mason of Texas; a sister, Lois Miller of Warren, 4 grandsons, Sean A. Mason, Dennis R. Mason, Donald C. Mason, Andrew K. Mason, 5 great-grandchildren and a great great- granddaughter.
No services will be held at this time per Harold’s wishes.
