Calvin D. Matteson Sr., 87, of 1181 Mead Run Rd. Youngsville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 31, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born August 19, 1925 in Youngwood, Pa., a son of the late Frank Matteson and Mary Jane Walker Cole.  Calvin was a WW II Veteran, serving in the US Navy aboard the Mine sweeper USS Raven (AM55).  He worked at Delux metal for many years and at the Warren State Hospital for 23 years as a Psych Aid.  He also drove school bus for several years.  Calvin was past commander of the VFW in Warren, was a member of the Youngsville American Legion Post #658, and he enjoyed, fishing, hunting, bingo, penny ante poker and cards.

Calvin is survived by his loving wife Eva Fedorchuk Matteson, whom he married July 2, 1983 in Irvine, his children, Kathy (John) Coulsin, San Diego, CA, David Matteson, Dewittville, N.Y., Matthew (Lonnie) Matteson, Canover, N.C., Helen Koehler, LaGrange, GA, Mary Jane (Gordon) Hefferman, Oil City, his step- children, Sarah Jane (Michael ) Singleton, Havelock, N.C., LeRoy (Kelly) VanTassel , Youngsville, Daniel (Ann) VanTassel, Pittsfield, Eva Marie Gertsch, Youngsville, Gerry (Mark) McIntyre, Clarendon, Mark (Kim) Hansen, Eldred, Pa., and Linda Porter, Bradford, Pa., several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Louise Matteson on July 25, 1981, his son Calvin D. Matteson Jr., his sisters, Mary Bell Stull, Anna Keller, Carrie Clark, Mabel Ansell, Hazel Terry, and Florence Matteson, brothers James, Frank and Howard Matteson.

Friends will be received at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 North Main St. in Youngsville on Saturday from 11-1 p.m. at which time a funeral service will be held with the Rev. Marcus Briggs, Chaplain of the Warren General Hospital, officiating.  Burial will follow in the Youngsville Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the Youngsville American Legion Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to: Hospice of Warren Co. or to the Warren Cancer Center, both at 2 Crescent Park, Warren, Pa. 16365.  Condolences to the family may be made at www.nelsonfuneralhome.net.

WE ALL SO ENJOYED SPENDING TIME WITH YOUR DAD. HE TRULY WAS A WONDERFUL MAN.HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED BY ALL THAT KNEW HIM. I AM SURE HIS FAMILY THAT WENT BEFORE HIM WAS WAITING FOR HIM WITH OPEN ARMS, AND OUR GOOD LORD ALSO... LOVE & PRAYERS TO ALL

Cal was a great man who was always smiling. We are very glad that we were able to get to know him. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this sad time.

I will miss Uncle Cal. I'll never forget all the great times we had whenever the family was together. He was the life of the party. He is with mom and the rest of his brothers and sister's now and will have eternal peace. We will all meet again some day! My thoughts and prayer's are with all of you.
