John C. McDonell, 84, of 110 Race St., Sugar Grove, passed away Sunday evening at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Erie.

He was born October 8, 1930 in Dearborn, MI, a son to the late Quinton and Evelyn (McDonald) McDonell. John was a Korean War Veteran serving in the US Army and was an Ironworker for 60 years with the Local #25 Union. He was a member of the Youngsville American Legion, and was a life member of the Sugar Grove AmVets and the Corry VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising pheasants.

John is survived by his loving wife, Janet Robbins McDonell, whom he married January 12, 1974; his 4 daughters;  Vicki (Steve) Ritten of Milford, MI, Cindy (Phill) McDonell; Beth Pritula, and Heidi (Bill) Parent, all of South Lyons, MI,  his stepchildren; Debbie (Jerry) Carlson, of Cadiz, OH, Brian Brennen, of Ind., Ind., Kim (Randy) Root of Highland, MI, Kelly Hartley, of Bemus Point, N.Y., 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and a daughter in-law, Jeanne McDonell.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son John C. McDonell Jr. and a son-in-law Nick Pritula.

Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday July 15th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 North Main St. in Youngsville.  A funeral service will be held there on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Marcus Briggs, Chaplain of the Rouse Warren Co. Home, officiating. Burial will be in the Lottsville Cemetery.

I am so sorry to here of the passing of Clayton, I am thinking of all his family and Janet. I saw him every Friday for a few years and I know he loved and was proud of you all. I am going to surely miss him he was a real nice man.

I am so sorry to hear of Clayton's death. I met Clayton in 1945 at the end of World War 11/ My deepest sympathy to his wife and family.
